Southwest Florida - Naples, Marco, 10,000 Islands

Capt. Jeff Legutki
February 26, 2007
Ten Thousand Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing is getting HOT

The weather is getting delightful and the fishing is getting even better!

Today started out with a layer of fog you could not see fifty feet ahead. Warm southerly breezes sent warm currents and hot air over the cooler water keeping the fog around until noon.

Fly fishing has been extreamly good! Snook and red fish have been aggressive and eating every well placed cast. Black muddler patterns have been the choice in the stirred up waters and crab patterns are the way to go when you can sight fish. Just about all the fish have been regirgitateing baby blue crabs once landed.

Tarpon are starting to show, with the first one of the year landed today. Although, I must admit it was pure luck. The fish took a jig intended for trout in a deep hole. Came as a big suprise when the four foot fish leaped out of the water screaming drag. The fish ate a root beer colored jig on an ultra light spinning outfit. This will now put myself in full tarpon mode and shall start taking the time to start the hunt for the silver gladiators.

Trout are gathering in the holes with alot of good size fish over 20 inches. Outgoing tides have been the most productive in water deeper than five feet.

Until my next report, tight lines and screaming drags to all. Fishing is getting better each day and appears we are leaving the winter doldrums. If you would like to experience a great day on the water call soon before all the days are booked up. This year should be better than the last.

Thank you,

Capt. Jeff Legutki

More Fishing Reports:

Come fish the 10,000 Islands and the Everglades National Park for tarpon, snook, red fish and more with either flyrods or light tackle. All artificial no live bait, geared for two anglers. Fly through the shallows in a Hellsbay Whipray. Fishing with the finest equiptment like Sage fly rods and Bauer reels or St. Croix spin rods and Quantum reels. Sight fishing is my passion! Target the toughest saltwater species in mere inches of water and fool them into eating year round.
