Ten Thousand Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report
Aug. Report
The heat makes it tough to be on the water long. Starting before the sun comes up is a must!
Weather has been very calm and stable. The beaches from Cape Ramono are gin clear making it great sight fishing for snook along the beach. A small "DT" fly gets the nod every time.
There are pods of tarpon out of the beaches right now below the birds. I have been using large swim baits like the Calcutta Foiltails and having great success. Most of these fish are good size like 70 lbs, and up. Permit can also be seen from time to time free swimming from wreck to wreck.
Redfish are around the outside points on the incoming tide. Top water plugs at first light then jigs on the bottom as the sun climbs in the sky.
Plenty of sharks around right now if you're looking for something "BIG" to tug back. Chumming always speeds up the process and out in front of deeper passes you'll find plenty of players.
Night fishing has probably been the best for nearly everything. Everything comes to life once the temperature drops a bit. Waters are completely empty having it all to yourself. Snook in the lights and current swept points, tarpon cruching mullet in the passes and sharks just about everywhere.
So get out there and enjoy yourself and be safe and courteous to other boaters, there is plenty of water out there so no need to crowd anyone. Until next time, tight lines and screaming drags to all!
