The wind howled like the hounds of hell this week.
OK, I'm exaggerating. It was windy though, out of the east, enough that combined with the lack of business, I only went out one day. That was on Wednesday.
The wind and seas made it impossible for the Mitzi to get out on the ocean. I took a kayak to the Banana River Lagoon. I expected the water to be high and dirty. I was right that it was still high. I was mostly right that it was still dirty. It was moderately clean in one spot.
The forecast was 10-15 out of the ENE. Spot on! There was no 10 involved, it was definitely 15. I stayed right against the shoreline.
I figured going in that if I got a bite it would be by the grace of God. When the sun was low I couldn't see anything at all. Once the sun climbed higher, I could see some if I stood up. When the sky was clear I could see a fair number of redfish. They would all be within spitting distance, tough to fish. When clouds came, and there were lots of them, I couldn't see anything.
I had three casts at fish, all of the "leader in the tip of the rod" variety. I had a redfish take the black bunny booger but the boat was floating freely. I had a bad angle and I couldn't get a hookset.
I was out five hours, paddled seven or eight miles, and had a wonderful time, caught fish or no.
Friday I had my first adventure in the Orlando VA Clinic. I hadn't received all the information and must go back again this week. I think it will all turn out OK, though.
Friday and Saturday I tied flies at the FFF Conclave. It was a good event. You shoulda been there! Some of you were, and thanks for coming! I saw many old friends and made some new ones, got a bunch of flies tied, and had an enjoyable couple of days.
I'm ready to go fishing now. Tom Van Horn and I are going tomorrow.
Life is short- GO FISHING!
And life is great and I really love my work!
