Indian River Lagoon & Banana River

Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

Indian River Lagon Titusville Area, 2/24

Outstanding Catch Dept.- As far as size goes there were no outstanding catches made this week. Five pound plus trout are becoming run of the mill, and slot reds certainly are no big deal. Tom Schaeffer had a crack at his first red on fly. It was a moose, too, a big fish of over 20 pounds in a school of tailing giants. The adrenaline was unbelievable. Anyway, one of the big boys ate a Maxx's Black Drum Clouser minnow. Whether it was an extra surge on the hook set, a poorly tied leader, or a combination, the fish broke off on the strike. Heartbreak happens in fishing, too.

Upcoming Events: The Cypress Gardens Great Outdoors Adventure Show will be from March 17-19. I'll be speaking there, as will many other better known fishing personalities. C'mon out and see us!

Due to strong north winds the water in the Indian River Lagoon dropped even more this week, causing the fish to move. The water temperature is rising too, and some of my little hidey holes are getting murky, although they're still producing fish. On the flats there are still excellent conditions for sight fishing. There are still loads of slot sized reds around, often in big schools. Big trout are still sunning themselves in shallow water. If you want to get these fish abandon the ship and wade for them. Your silhouette is so much smaller and you make so much less commotion that the fish are relatively easy to catch this way. Long live gator trout! Practice catch and release!
