Indian River Lagoon & Banana River

Capt. John Kumiski

Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

This week's report on the upper Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon

from Spotted Tail, updated 8/25

Outstanding Catch Dept.- We didn't have any particularly outstanding catches this week.

Monday I fished the Atlantic out of Port Canaveral with Dr. Bob Hicks. We found huge schools of pogies in Canavaral Bight, but absoluely nothing waseating them. We saw one barracuda and one tarpon, and lost one DOA Bait Buster to an unseen barracuda. It was a very slow day.

Tuseday I had Barry Kent from Leesburg out in the Indian River. We found a small area with tailing redfish. We didn't get any. We found one school of big reds. We didn't get any of those, either. We did get one jack from a school, one of two schools of jacks we found. I cannot wait for the bait to start moving, which should start happening withing three or four weeks.

On Thursday I had the pleasure of fishing the Mosquito Lagoon with Dr. Bob Hicks and John Fishbach, both of Orlando. While we didn't see any big reds, fishing for slot sized fish was pretty good. We saw three schools of about 50-60 fish each, catching fish from all three on DOA Bait Busters. We then anchored up on the edge of a bar and got eight or ten fish inside of 30 minutes, after which we went home. A good way to end the day!

Fishing is great and I still love my work!
