Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report
This week's report on the upper Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon from Spotted Tail, updated 8/31
Monday my neighbor Karl Dienst and I went out. We launched at Scottsmoor. Since we didn't see anything (and we spent some time looking) in the Indian River we went through the Haulover Canal and checked a few places in the Mosquito Lagoon. We hooked one redfish. Places that had been holding fish weren't. On the way back to Scottsmoor we came upon a big school of nice jacks, probably six or seven pounds. How often do jacks refuse popping plugs? These did. Tough day.
Yesterday I took the Bang-O-Craft, intending to fish Spruce Creek. Construction at the US 1 bridge prevented me from launching there. I again went to Scottsmoor and ran the jonboat up Turnbull Creek all the way to US 1. I poled most of the way back to the Indian River, looking for fish. I saw one redfish, picked up two small trout on jigs. The creek is beautiful, fish must go in there sometimes. They weren't there yesterday though. The jacks (probably the same ones as Monday) were tearing up mullet up at the north end of the river, but I didn't get any shots.
Today I wrote until noontime, then took the Bang-O-Craft out on the Banana River. First cast, nice redfish, Maxx's Redfish Fly. The fish were right up against the shoreline. I probably saw 50 or so fish, mostly singles. I got two more, then found some rolling tarpon. I jumped two of about 20 pounds or so on black Clouser minnows. I was back to the truck at 4 PM after a very pleasant afternoon.
Fishing is great and I love my work!
