Indian River Lagoon & Banana River

Capt. John Kumiski
September 20, 2000
Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

Outstanding Catch Dept.- A fly caster, known to me only as Sasaki, got his first tarpon on Saturday in the Indian River, a fish of about 12 pounds, on a weighted Seaducer. Congratulations, sir!

Friday I fished in the Mosquito Lagoon for maybe four hours. The water was high and visibility was poor. I saw very few fish, so few that I took Sasaki and Awati onto the Indian River on Saturday. Several fish struck and were missed, and several opportunities were not cashed in on, but Sasaki did get that tarpon and a large ladyfish, too.

Monday I went scouting in the Indian River. Fishing around docks I got a couple reds, three nice trout between 4 and almost 10 pounds, a tarpon, and a few jacks, all on jigs.

Tuesday Jeff Zucol and his father-in-law Mel got a 20" trout, a jack, a bunch of ladyfish, and jumped 7 tarpon, three of which they boated, all in the Indian River.

Yesterday I brought Maxx to the no motor zone. We saw quite a few redfish, all as we were just running over them. Every fish was lying on the bottom motionless. With the high water, clouds, and wind, sight fishing was almost impossible and we didn't get a fish.

Today I fished Chris Walker in the Indian River. We saw lots of slot sized reds in the clear water, only a few of which showed any interest at all in the various lures we tried. He missed a couple of strikes and ended up not getting a red, but he did jump two tarpon and put one in the boat. They are the greatest fish, aren't they?

Fishing is great and I love my work!
