Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

This week's report on the upper Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon
from Spotted Tail, updated 12/17
This will be my final report of this very eventful year. It saddens me deeply that some of those events were so tragic.
Fishing, however, was pretty darned good over the past 10 days or so, with one exception. Saturday last week (12/8) I fished Tom Hancock, an excellent flyfisher from Boston. We had shots at big reds all morning. He only hooked two fish, breaking one off and boating the second, which was a redfish of 19 pounds. The fish took a Bunny-ducer.
Monday I took Patrick Phillips out, a local flyfisher from Daytona. Reds were hard to find, but he got eight or so trout, unfortunately all little ones. We got soaked by a nice hard rain shower. Cloudy, windy conditions seldom produce good fly fishing.
Friday I went scouting in the Mosquito Lagoon. There were loads of fish around- I got eight or ten reds on jerk baits and three of four more on the fly rod.
Saturday I fished Greg Pike, another excellent flyfisher from Montana. We were in fish almost all day, often made very spooky by all the boat traffic. He managed to put three in the boat, all caught on Merkins, and missed a couple of strikes besides.
I will be out of town until New Year's Day. If you need a guide please check the IRGA website at www.irga.org Best wishes for a wonderful holiday to everyone!
Fishing is great and I love my work!
