Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

This week's report on the upper Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon
from Spotted Tail, updated 1/29
We have had incredible weather, especially for January. Daytime temperatures have been in the 80's, and in the surf the water has already hit 70 degrees. The water in the lagoon system is still very low.
It's confusing the fish, if last week was any indication. They are around, but quite scattered and not terribly interested in eating. Tuesday I fished New Jersey's Tom McMahon. He got three reds and two nice trout, all on Capt. Mike's Flats Candy Too.
Wednesday I fished Claude Fennemma, a fly caster from Massachusetts. Claude got blanked, but his missus got three reds on spin.
Thursday and Friday I fished Tom Hartman, from Pennsylvania. We had a great time, and here's what he had to say:
"Hi John,
I just wanted to take this opportunity to send along a note and say 'thank
you' for showing me the Mosquito Lagoon area. It was a wonderful trip and
the banter between us made it all the more enjoyable.
I'll be coming back in the future, so we will meet again.
I am having a shadow box made up with the fly you gave me and a picture of my first redfish.
Actually, I can't wait to come back. It was one of the best experiences I
have had in a very long time. Thank you for all you did to make it that way.
Best wishes,
Tom Hartman"
What a great letter to get. Thanks, Tom!
It's still great to be alive, and I still love my work!
