Indian River Lagoon & Banana River

Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

John Kumiski's Spotted Tail report 3/5

This week’s fishing report from Spotted Tail, updated 3/5/05

Now booking tarpon dates for May and June along the Lee Island Beaches!

Last weekend (Saturday, Sunday) I went to the Shallow Water Expo in Atlanta. Not spectacular, but nice. Lefty Kreh was there celebrating his 80th birthday with a bluegrass band and not one but two big cakes. We sang happy birthday to him. I controlled myself and only had one piece of cake…

The only day I fished this week was Wednesday. Burr Boston, a fly fisher from Pennsylvania, graced the Spotted Tail on our visit to the Mosquito Lagoon. It was darned cold, although a beautiful, sunny day. We saw enormous numbers of big seatrout, literally hundreds. Burr managed five strikes and put a small red and a fine, fat, 26 " six pound trout in the boat. Both fish came on a grizzly Seaducer. We found a school of reds late in the afternoon but could not get a bite.

Today about 20 people joined me for my first Show and Tell Seminar in about five years. Surprisingly, although we saw thousands of birds, an otter, and at least 50 alligators, we only saw one fish all day. On a day like today we should have seen a lot more, even from the car. We drove all the open dike roads and visited all the boat ramps in the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, finishing up at about 4 PM. I think everyone had a good time, I know I did!

Remember- life is short. GO FISHING!

Life is also great and I love my work!!
