Some of you reading my reports have undoubtedly been curious as to what SexyFlies are. It's by no means finished, but the SexyFlies website is up and running, complete with tying instructions. Click on the link below if you want to check it out:

I didn't write a report last week. I fished three days in the Mosquito Lagoon, the first by myself by kayak on 8/31 out of River Breeze. Before I launched the boat I knew I wouldn't catch anything because the water was too deep to sight fish. It turned out to be dirty, too. I saw eight fish, all of them directly under the bow of the vessel and right as they blew out. I didn't get a shot.
Don and Don Lauser, a father and son team from Palm Beach, shared the Spotted Tail with me on September 1. We found an area with a lot of mullet and quite a few reds mixed in. They put three slot sized fish in the boat and missed a few strikes. One fish was caught on a jerk bait, the other two on gold spoons. The high and dirty water definitely hampered our success. We were back on the dock at noon.
Friday I went out with Rick Burns and Bill Covington, out of River Breeze. The water is high and dirty. We fly fished blindly all morning and caught two trout and a small red. I was back on the dock at noon.
This week I fished Mike Barnett and Jim Grayson, fly fishers from Myrtle Beach, for three days. Friday Ophelia was blowing and spitting. We ended up at the power plant, where ladyfish of all sizes kept us very occupied, one of those fish on every cast days. Great fun! Saturday I found a patch of clean water. There were redfish there, not a ton of them, but enough that Mike and Jim took turns and managed to get five or six each, all on weighted streamers. All these fish but one slightly oversized one were in the slot. Sunday we returned and you could tell it was the weekend, boats running their motors and trying to net bait right in our fishing spot. We looked in a couple of other places but dirty water prevented our seeing much, and what we did see was when it was too late to get a cast off. We returned to the busy, but clean, water and managed to hook three fish on fly, only one of which was boated. We were off the water at noon.
The mullet are definitely running, although the run hasn't peaked yet. Make time to get out and take advantage of this annual phenomenon.
