Venice - Saltwater Fishing Report

December Fishing Action Should Be Good All Month
This past week was beautiful, and the fishing action out on the gulf wasn't half bad either. There's still plenty of white bait all up and down the beaches, which always seems to bring the big fish in close to the coastline.
The other day I was down at Manasota Beach for the sunset and I saw a 6-foot blacktip shark jump completely out of the water as it thrashed through a school of baitfish. This is pretty much the story all over out on the gulf right now. It's as if we're in the middle of a kick butt spring run.
In close to the beach we're catching kingfish, Spanish mackerel, cobia, and tripletail. Farther offshore the grouper action has been good and we're catching lots of keeper sized grouper as well as plenty of mangrove snapper and trigger fish on all the trips.
Who can complain with all the nice weather and the fish cooperating. Well that's it for this week. If you're not out fishing you're wishing you were. Get out and go fishing cuz' it's good fer ya!
