Fishing Jekyll & St. Simons Islands GA

Capt. Vernon Reynolds
July 1, 2009
Jekyll Island - Saltwater Fishing Report

07-02-09 JEKYLL ISLAND FISHING REPORT
By Captain Vernon Reynolds

Fishing in the Golden Isles is in full swing. The ever present Whiting are on the sand bars, feeding us and the Sharks. Sharks up to eight feet are being caught in area Sounds and open ocean waters, near sand bars. A few Tarpon are being taken in the sounds also, expect more to show up in the next couple of weeks. Tripletail are working inshore and near shore waters. Speckled Trout are moving from the beaches into the sounds, rivers and creeks. Redfish are also biting well in the creeks and rivers; and Flounder are being found in the mouths of feeder creeks. Expect to take Bluefish, Ladyfish and Jacks along with the Trout and Reds. King and Spanish Mackerel, Barracuda and Cobia are roaming the near shore reefs. Grouper and Snapper are being taken at the 40 mile bottom. Wahoo and a few Tuna are located at the Gulf Stream.

The Golden Isles is a fun place to be during the summer. Lots of water activities and beach going to enjoy. It‘s hot but not unbearable and there is nothing quite like standing on the dock at the end of a day waiting for the first drops of rain from a thunder storm to run you off. Watching the black clouds contort and grow as the build across the sky. Feeling the coolness of the rain in the blustering wind. Seeing, hearing and feeling the power of lightning moving closer and closer. This is a wonderful thing but make no mistake, be damn sure you are close to shelter when a storm hits. Do not be in a boat a mile from the dock or on the beach 500 yards from your car. The storms we have in South Georgia are as deadly as they are beautiful.

If you are a fisherman the opportunities are many. Take your family for an outing, they will talk about it and thank you for years to come.
