Jekyll Island - Saltwater Fishing Report

BULL REDFISH AROUND JEKYLL ISLAND AND ST SIMONS ISLAND IN COASTAL GEORGIA

If monster Redfish is on your bucket list, contact us to get on some serious bull Redfish action this season!

Here's why... Bull Reds make their annual late Summer and early Fall season appearance after coming inshore from the various reefs that are spread across Georgia's coast. Best of all, they're already here!

Once in the safety of the Bay and Inshore waters along the Georgia Coast, male redfish will band together in an "aggregate", creating a drumming sound that signals the female red fish that they're ready for spawn. The full moon arranges the tides that are necessary for the spawning females to release their eggs on flood tides that will land the eggs in the cover of our inland marsh grass areas for safety.

After dropping their eggs, females need to bulk up again in order to repeat this cycle during the next full moon. This is when we catch some monster Bull Redfish and sometimes in huge numbers.

St. Simons Island Fishing Charters and Jekyll Island Fishing Charters offer our customers some of the best bull red action in the USA, with multiple deep water channels allowing the fish to travel between the various sandbars that pervade St. Simons Island, Jekyll Island and St. Andrews sounds. An influx of bait fish locally called "pogies" also know as menhaden, provide the nourishment bull reds need to spawn. This allows anglers to get in on some red hot red fish action!!

If you've never fought a bull red, then you're truly missing out on an experience that will last a lifetime! The bull red is designed for battle in the aquatic scene, with a blunt shaped face, head like a bowling ball and broad shoulders, all built for brute strength! Once hooked, the fish will show its force with loaded head shakes and drag ripping runs. During the fight, they will astonish you with their top water tail slaps and the occasional saltwater shower. There's not another fish in the ocean that fights like a Bull Redfish. It's simply amazing!
