Big Fish on the Rivers

Capt. Doug Nelms
July 11, 2012
Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report

Its that magical time of the year when stripers are looking for cool water, and we are sitting in the river, waiting on them. The bite in our local rivers has been just fascinating, as we have boated many monster stripers above the 20 pound range.

With my jet boat, I get to go into places that most boats cannot travel into, and the rewards are great. We can just about promise a big, trophy striper on each and every trip we take.

Also, Lake Lanier is doing really good as the summertime, downline bite has taken off. There is a good chance to catch a trophy fish within all the numbers that we seem to catch on Lanier, but the river is where you want to be. Give me a call if you are interested in landing a trophy striped bass.

Doug is a licensed USCG Captain and has been guiding over 14 years. His specialty is trophy Striped Bass, and huge Crappie during certain months. His boat is a Ranger 2300 Bay Series powered by a 225 Yamaha 4-stroke motor. It is spacious and can fish up to 6 people! During the hot summer months he heads to the Chattahoochee River to pursue monster Striped bass. He fishes from a custom jet boat, built exclusively for fishing the river. BigFishHeads Guide service operates year round.
