Lake Oconee, Madison Georgia

Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report

Water Temp 85-90

It is really really hot here on beautiful Lake Oconee. So hot that no one really wants to fish, except yours truly! I am suprised after all the bad weather we have had, the fishing is not all that bad right now.

Our hybrids are doing pretty well and if you can keep bait alive, and get to the lake at the right time, you can be rewarded with some nice hybes.

Concentrate your efforts at Flagpole, The Pipeline and Sugar Creek. Guys are pulling goober rigs at SC and doing pretty good. They are catching hybes from 3 to 5 pounds pretty regular. Make sure you keep a popping cork handy because at various times of the day they are busting up on top, and the action can really be wild. If you are fishing live bait, downling will be the key. Some of these humps these fish are holding on are no bigger than a pickup truck, but if you put the bait on them, every rod in your boat will go down.

Which reminds me of a group I was fishing a few days ago. I graphed the fish and threw out a marker. The wind blew us off the spot about 200 yards, just enough time for me to set 8 rods out. I turned around and went back to the buoy, which took a good 10 minutes. One of my customers asked, "When will these fish bite, Doug" and I proceeded to tell him, as soon as we get to that marker. I didnt mark a fish the entire way back, but as soon as we pulled up beside the marker all 8 rods went down. The smallest fish was 4 and the biggest was 7. Just as soon as I passed it, you could not graph another fish.

That is how it is right now, but man are we having alot of fun.
