Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report

Water is 64 in the middle of the lake
I would like to take this opportunity and tell you why it is important not to winterize you boat right now. Every year anglers put their fishing gear away to sit by a warm fire and think about the upcoming season.
Officially the hybrid and crappie season has just began this week. While people are getting off the lake, the opportunity for you to catch really big fish is just now starting. Really! I know it may be hard to believe but the upcoming weeks will produce some of the greatest fishing of the year. In just the last 2 weeks we have boated over 100 hybes total for various trips. Don’t wait for the dogwoods to bloom or the vernal equinox or whatever the excuse, get on the water now for great fishing.
The reason for this is because the hybes have been scattered all over the lake for the past 3 months. Now the shad are beginning to stack up in the coves, looking for warmer water and the hybes are following. Is it cold outside, YES! But that is what Thinsulate and Gore-tex is for.
Just think about nursing a cup of hot coffee, talking with your friends and sticking a hook in a trophy size hybrid bass. That is what November is all about and there is no better time than thanksgiving to do so.
The fish are moving in the coves each and every day and we are getting catches from 6 to 30 hybes on an afternoon trip. If you want to find out where they are, or learn their wintertime habits give me a call and book a trip for a half day. It will be the best money you have ever spent and you will be able to fish for these things throughout the New Year. I am finding the fish in various coves all over the lake, but the middle of the lake seems to be producing the very best. The gulls have begun to show up and in just a month we will be chasing the birds and throwing our secret weapon, filling our boat with trophy fish.
Sound exciting? Give me a call and find out for yourself!
Tight lines
Doug Nelms
