Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report

Fishing Report
September 15, 2006
Water Temp: mid 80’s
The mornings are cooling down, I am noticing fog beginning to build over the lake each morning, and that only means one thing. It is time for me to go back to work! Not complaining, just excited. The lake is starting to turn back over and the fishing is picking up here at Oconee.
My estimation is about the first week of October the hybes should start their topwater activity and I hope that you and I are sitting right in the middle of it. Our striper population seems to have done very well during this hot summer. Many bass anglers are catching them and they are weighing in between 2 ½ and 3 pounds. These little buggers attacked, slashed, and ate some of the biggest shad I have floated behind the boat this summer and I hope they keep that same nasty attitude when they grow up.
If the hybes keep on their yearly pattern, they will show up somewhere in the big U. From River Bend, down to dam, back up to Ritz. They could be anywhere in the big U and you want to look for clear water. The Ritz side always seems to have the nicest water so I would start there. Get a super spook or a Sammy and just ride until you find chaos in the water, throw into them and hang on. This is going to be a great year and hopefully we can even get in some great crappie fishing before it gets real cold.
If you have visited my web site any time or if you are on my mailing list you have probably noted a slight price increase in guided trip, due to that wicked woman named Katrina! As you well know gas is through the roof, we have had to adjust our prices only a little, but we are still going to make these fish pay!
If you would like to get on my mailing list to get updates please just send me an email. Also due to the fact that so many people are writing me from overseas, informing me that I have won a bizillion dollars, I have changed my email address to [email protected].
Thanks and tight lines
Doug
