Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report

October 5, 2007

Water Temp 70’s

The Atlanta Thrashers opening game is tonight, the weather has started to cool, and all the boats have left Oconee, which means only one thing: our upcoming fishing season is under way. I love the month of October because we get to start all over again and there is always much anticipation about what is going to happen.

First of all the crappie are now showing up in the Richland Creek area and already some of my friends have went up there and caught some really good crappie. It is only going to get better as the days cool off.

The hybrids always start showing up around River Bend during this time of the year and normally the River Bend area gets loaded up with shad. Last October there were so many shad in the area you could pull in there and just see them all over the water. When you see bait like that, the fish are somewhere close.

During this time of the year I use store bought bass minnows. One reason is the hybes are feeding on much smaller bait and tiny shad do not live on a 1/0 hook. Big minnows can be found at Sugar Creek Marina and at the BP station on Hwy 44.

Flat lining these baits over suspended fish will bring some really great results. If you are interested in booking a trip to catch or find out how to go after them during this time of the year, give me a call or go to the website at www.oconeehybrids.com
