The hybrids have been kind of hard to find over the past couple of weeks, but alas, when one fish goes on strike, the other fish show up to work!
The crappie fishing has been awesome! I am talking about 2 plus pound, broke necked, big as a pie plate, crappie! A lot of people wait until the dogwoods bloom to fish for these things, but if you follow my reports you know all too well that this is the time to crappie fish.
We have concentrated all of our efforts up the Apalachee River, but anglers are catching them everywhere; Lick Creek, 19th Hole, Grayson White’s Cove, just about everywhere crappie generally show up, they are there. A couple of anglers I fished today even said they caught some nice fish under their boat dock light last night! WOW.
The crappie are thinking about going into shallow water already and I know that is hard to believe because normally that doesn’t happen until April, but go figure. We caught some in less than 3 foot of water on the power lines this week, and the anglers have started showing up at Wayne’s Point, which is where I caught most of my fish today.
Spider Rigging is the method of choice and it seems like the darker color jigs are doing better.
Over the next few weeks you should come out and try these huge fish. I think you will be surprised at how big they really are!
