Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report
October 21, 2009
Water temp 73
I know it has been a couple of months since I posted a report, but it takes some time for Oconee to recover from the "dog days" of summer. The water has still been too warm to find any substantial fish, but that is all about to change.
Two things normally happen when the lake turns back over and those things are, 1) the stripers show up in River Bend and 2) the crappie start staging around the duck blind area. Both of these things are going on right now.
Some big stripers are starting to move into River Bend and it is loaded up with bait. The cove just before River Bend has so much bait in it, they were literally jumping out of the water as we were making our way up in there with the boat. This is the time of year I love to get started chasing the fish. The long summer always gives way to some outstanding fish and this year is no different.
If you are interested in crappie fishing, by the upcoming full moon it should be on like Donkey-Kong. If the weather patterns continue to hold, and the rain stays away, this is going to be one awesome crappie season.
