Shad Kill on the Way, Great fishing just after

Capt. Doug Nelms
January 3, 2010
Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report

January 3, 2010 Water Temp is 47

Tonight's temperature is supposed to drop into the lower teens, which means the fishing is about to get really great on Lake Oconee.

The fish will start appearing around the same area where you will see gulls. Right now they are schooling around Hwy 44 and the south end of the lake. Large bass minnows are the ticket for getting them to bite due to the fact they are gorging themselves on small shad. If the temp falls very low tonight we will have a shad kill, that will make the fishing even better.

Look in River Bend, Great Waters, and the south end of the lake for any bird activity and schooling fish. The water has started to clear up really good in the Apalachee River and should soon see the effects of it in the big water. Now is a great time to book a trip for the New Year and catch a trophy striper!
