Stripes are still on!

Capt. Doug Nelms

Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report

Water Temp is 86 Degrees At Wallace Dam

I think we are starting to see the lake turn over at Oconee. It happens every year, and even though I don't know the technical stuff about what happens when it does its ‘turn over", one thing becomes clear. You have to be smarter than the average bear to catch any fish.

So far the stripers are making us all feel like we are very smart. I think the patterns we are seeing on the lake will be completely different this year than any other year. It is due to the fact that our stripers are almost 12 pounds now and they tend to behave differently than the hybrids. So, instead of putting our gear away, we are still catching fish with consistency.

Sugar Creek hayfields, Flagpole Point, Great Waters boat house are areas that I would certainly look at. The fish have been loaded up in these spots when there is water movement. A few days ago we couldn't get a Norris Rig across the hayfields without catching 2 fish on each rod. It was off the chain!
