St Simons Island Winter Fishing Still Hot!!

Capt. Tim Cutting
March 3, 2014
St. Simons Island - Saltwater Fishing Report

We were able to take advantage of a nice little warming trend and some midday low tides. In four fabulous days of fishing we caught and released nearly just over 100 fish! About 2/3 of our catch was trout and small profile soft plastics were the bait of choice. The red fish and black drum also cooperated vey well, and fresh live shrimp was the tickets for both these drum. Surprisingly enough a few flounder were caught as well. That is a sure sign that spring is here and the fishing is about to explode...although so far this winter has been hot!javascript:insert_imagejavascript:insert_image('

St. Simons Island Fishing Forecast:

The pattern for us has been fish deep during the low outgoing tide for trout, flounder and black drum, and hit the mudflats on the first of the incoming tide for redfish. This pattern should hold strong with that same scenario starting March 6th thru 15th. A welcome addition will be those tasty whiting (Southern Kingfish)! Whiting have been showing up on the beach and in the sounds, and have been fairly large for this time of year.

Target Species:

redfish, trout, black drum, flounder
