Honolulu - Saltwater Fishing Report

While the rest of the US is hoping for a thaw. Capt. Terry Duffield aka 'Coach Duff' is guiding another client to an 11 lb. bonefish on fly!

This monster ate one of his many shrimp variations. We see beasts like this on a regular basis. Of course getting one to take is another ball game. I firmly beleive that bonefish over 10 lbs are over 10 years old and not dummies.
Luckily, inovative fly patterns and jigs have made things easier. Making the proper cast and feeding these 'wise old beasts' is the key. Experience goes a long way in bonefishing advanced fisheries but listening and doing exactly what your guide says can accelerate the learning curve even make your first outing a success! The thing to remember is that double digit bonefish fall into the 'fish of a lifetime' catagory and will be remembered for decades!

Last week i had the pleasure to fish with John Bilotta, a fly casting instructor from DC and he had these kind words to say-

'Oahu is a challenging place to fly fish with opportunities for big bones.
Chris is a terrific guide and he made my days on the water very enjoyable
and productive. I will definitely keep coming back to this fishery.'

We saw many tailers and he had 2 really nice fish eat his fly but somehow they managed to come unglued. He'll get 'em next time!

The thing i really like about Oahu, beside bahama-like flats, is the the weather! We usually have balmy breezes but rarely ever any humidity. Some days we go from dawn to dusk without ever breaking a sweat! I hope to see you in paradise, soon

Honolulu Fishing Forecast:

i hate to sound like a broken record, but the fishery remains very constant and i am expecting perfect conditions for most of the week!
