Bonefishing Oahu as good as it gets!

Capt. Chris Asaro
July 24, 2010
Honolulu - Saltwater Fishing Report

I have good news and bad news. First the good news. bonefishing around oahu has been like clock work. With good tides and sun, we had some non-stop action. Capt. Duffield back from a long needed vacation to seatle to see family and of course- fish! He did manage to get a 22in rainbow on dry fly!

On a recent trip with Tom Faulkner from Oakley,
they landed 2 nice bones on one of coach's favorite crustacean fly pattern. And here are the pix! [technical diff. with pix]

Another trip with Takashi they landed an 8 lb beauty on a similiar Duffer special! the story is as follows from Coach-
" He hooked this fish tailing with a money presentation right on the edge. the fish pounced on it, went over the coral edge of the flat. He immediately threw slack and turned off the Hatch drag which I've taught him to do. The fish still ran straight down and the area he hooked it in is 11 feet deep off the flat. The backing got caught on the bottom and we were gonna lose this baby so I ripped off my chest pack and Oakleys off handed them to Takashi, and jumped in. I swam to the bottom, grabbed the line and backing which was wrapped around coral heads, and as it freed the fish ran up in the water column and while under free spool came tight. I swam up to the surface, crawled to the edge and we landed the beast. I looked like a drowned rat and we were both high fiving and screaming BANZAI! Takashi was PUMPED. He now calls me Kamakazie Coach." He's the pictures-Way to go Coach![tech. difficulties with pix]

Now for picture i promised of Melissa and Waylan Miller. They hooked 9 all together with spinning gear. Not bad for first time bonefishing!

Alas, the bad news- due to the lack of response to my writings, i have decided to go to a monthly report format with an extra report for something really special. If i get enough emails then i would consider going back to a weekly report. thank you to those that do follow me weekly and hope to see you on oahu sometime soon!
