Wintertime Red Hot Hawaiian Bonefishing

Capt. Chris Asaro
January 30, 2010
Honolulu - Saltwater Fishing Report

Non-stop action is the only way i could describe last week! With great tide and perfect conditions, we spotted tailing bonefish as we pulled up to the flats. On friday, Matt Harper released his first bonefish on fly. It was smaller than the dozens we saw tailing at first light but still went way into his backing! Congrats Matt!

On Saturday, Bob Kidd also released his first bonefish. Again, we were on massive tailers from the get go. It was his first time bonefishing.
The fish screamed off about 150 yards and almost made it over the edge. We estimated it to weight around 8 lbs. If your reading this Bob, i'm sure everyone in cyberspace would love to see your fish so please email me the picture.

Fronts have been coming in more frequently now.
The good news is they don't last long and i will move around clients to get the best possible conditions. Water temperatures have remained warm and will continue to do so for the rest of winter.

Honolulu Fishing Forecast:

next week, tides are again great for first light.
I like to head out before the sun rises to take advantage of every minute of good tide. Before fronts, bonefish always seem to be the most active. I like to move scheduled trips into the best window!

Target Species:

Giant Bonefish, Trevally
