Sidney and Ronnie's Redfish Trip in Lafitte,LA.

Lafitte - Saltwater Fishing Report

Wednesday Aug. 12th

Today I had the pleasure of fishing with Sidney from Riley,NC. We left the dock at Lafitte Harbor Marina and headed south to Turtle Bay/ Little Lake area to try and catch some Redfish. Sidney said he wanted to try his luck on catching a nice red. They had a few thunderstorms hanging around just south of us this morning, that kept us from going much futher than Hackberry Bay. So our first stop was in Turtle Bay on the south shoreline. The wind was fairly light from the northwest and the water was semi-clear, but we did not have much tide movement at first light. After fishing a few hundred feet and not many bites, I decided to go into the shallow duck ponds just south of Little Lake. We saw many Redfish waking down the banks, but did not get many of the Redfish we saw to bite. We caught 3 reds on our first stop. We moved on to another group of ponds I like to fish, and this was the place we caught most of our fish. The first Redfish Sidney caught this morning was a real nice 28" red that gave him a good fight. He caught many more this morning that were in the 25" to 28" inch size range. Both Sidney and I caught a few nice fish we released after we had our limit for the day. Sidney had a really nice Redfish that was about 30" long run into the trolling motor and break his powerpro line, before I could get the net, or lift the trolling motor. We hooked 25 or so Redfish this morning before the thunderstorms ran us back to the dock around 11:30am. Sidney said he had a great time catching Redfish in the shallow duck pond, where you can see the fish waking down the banks before you cast to them. This was New Orleans Fishing At Its Finest!

Capt. Todd Dufour fished with Sidney's business partner Ronnie this morning, and they too went to the Little Lake area hunting Redfish. They had a great day of catching Redfish also. They caught their Limit of reds, and caught and released a few more before they were forced back to the dock from the weather. Ronnie Caught a real nice 28" Redfish with Capt. Todd also. Great Job Guys!
I have posted the pictures for the day and the pictures will tell the truth.
All the Redfish we caught today were caught casting Black/Chatruese Tail H&H Cocahoes with a 1/4oz jighead on 30# PowerPro line.

I want to thank Sidney and Ronnie for fishing with Capt. Todd Dufour and Myself Capt. Scott Poche`this morning. It was a great day on the water guys and we look forward to seeing you again in Oct.

Lafitte Fishing Forecast:

The fishing in Lafitte,LA. has been great for the past few months. There are plenty of Redfish in the shallow marshes to be caught. The Shallow Duck ponds are getting really good as the summer goes on, and will continue to get better as we move into the fall.
The Speckled Trout action is still doing well, as long as the weather allows us to make the run to Barataria Bay area. There are plenty of nice Speckled Trout along the coast and around the islands on the south side of the bay. GET OUT AND DO SOME FISHING!
