Venice - Saltwater Fishing Report

Tuna, Tuna, Tuna!!!
I have not been able to post any reports for the past month because of computer problems, so I have a lot to talk about today. For the past couple of months we have been fishing a sacket bank or lump off the coast of Louisiana. The fishing in this area is one of the most consistent in the world as far as catching tuna.
We had Scott Salyers and Jason Cannon down from Sportfishing magazine to catch some of the triple-digit tuna that we have. They were successful by catching one at 135lbs. and one at 115lbs. They both took top water plugs 10ft. from the boat. Scared the hell out of them. They did no which way to run when they saw the fish hit. We also got them on some monster wahoo, grouper, and amberjack. The article should be coming out in January.
Last week we had Scott Leon from Marlin magazine down to try and catch a world record tuna on fly. He was successful in catching a 65lb. yellowfin and a 25 lb. blackfin. The yellowfin was 16 pounds shy and the blackfin was 3 pounds shy of the record. We were suppose to fish for 3 days but only got to fish one due to the weather. We ended the day with 14 tuna total. I posted a picture in the picture gallery for everyone to see the catch.
We have been averaging about 10-12 blackfin and 3-5 yellowfin per trip. The yellowfin have all been about 100-170lbs. and the blackfin 15-30lbs. We have some huge blackfin down here. We have been mainly chumming or chunking for them and absolutely wearing them out. We have been trolling for wahoo some but most of the charters mainly want to test there strength with some of the huge tuna that we have been catching. Thanks Captain Damon McKnight
