Venice - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hot Fishing in the South.
The offshore fishing is hot again. We have had some crazy weather the past few months and it is finally starting to straighten out. The amberjack are the talk of fishing right now. Just about every trip we have taken we have pulled in a limit of A.J.'s. Also, the rips are starting to form up perfectly attracting thousands of dolphin fish. The rigs are holding big snapper, grouper, and cobia. The fishing doesn't get any better than this.
We left out Saturday morning in search of Tuna. The first stop was a rip line about 18 miles South of Southwest Pass. The rip was holding plenty of flying fish and chicken dolphin but no big fish. We went about 10 miles further south of the rip to a canyon rig which is in 353ft. of water and still no tuna, but these rigs hold plenty of other fish. First drop down big Amberjack. I said, Oh Yeh! they are definately thick down here. For two more hours we consistently had hits on just about every drop down. We caught our limit and ran back to the rip to see if any big predators had shown up yet.
When we made it back to the rip line it was still perfect. We put the baits out and starting trolling. The only problem that we had were the dolphin. They were so thick that we couldn't keep them off the lines. We were going to catch them later on in the day but, we decided to go ahead and catch them now if they are going to bite like this. We ended up with 53 dolphin and called it a day.
The fishing is hot down in Venice, La. Whether you want to go offshore for Marlin or go after Snapper and Grouper we do it all. Thanks, Capt. Damon McKnight
