Venice - Saltwater Fishing Report

Winter Fishing-Lump Season
The weather down here in South Louisiana has been up and down. We have had a lot more windy days than we usually have this time of year, which means we haven't been out fishing that much. Last week we had a full moon which made the offshore fishing very inconsistent. The full moon is over with and we should have great fishing for the next couple of weeks.
The winter months in Venice, La. produce huge Tuna and Wahoo. We fish the midnight lump which is a salt dome 18 miles from our coast. The fishing is unbelievable! From huge tuna to amberjack, the lump produces everything. You can expect to catch yellowfin and blackfin tuna, amberjack, wahoo, grouper, rainbow runners, bonita, red snapper, and if your lucky a mako shark or two. If you want to get in on a fishing trip that dreams are made of you will want to fish the lump.
This past weekend we had David Harman and family down from Oklahoma. They initially wanted to go offshore fishing but the weather just would not permit that. The forecast was for 1-2ft. seas but it was really 4-6's. It would have been their first time offshore fishing so they decided they would rather stay inshore instead of fight the rough conditions. They hammered the bull redfish, croakers, sheephead, drum, and mangrove snappers. You can have a fishing day like this just about year round in Venice.
We should have some great reports this week and we will try and post a lot more pics of some of the big tuna that we catch.
