Louisiana - Venice & the Gulf of Mexico

Capt. Damon McKnight
January 12, 2002
Venice - Saltwater Fishing Report

The Yellowfin are Back!

If you have read most of my fishing reports then you know that I talk about the Midnight Lump and the world class fishing that we have. Well, it is that time of year again and the tuna and wahoo are back. The boats have been averaging about 4-5 yellowfin tuna and 6-7 blackfin tuna per trip. The yellowfin have been between 65-100+lbs. and the blackfin tuna have been 15-25lbs. The Wahoo are back but they haven't really shown up in big numbers yet. Two to Three Wahoo per boat averaging 50-70lbs. have been the best so far . We have an article coming out in The March issue of SportFishing Magazine. The article talks about chumming on the lump and the fish that we catch. Be sure to check it out.

The weather down here in Louisiana has not been the greatest for fishing. Fortunately for us we can still fish inshore and load the boat with redfish, flounder, drum, croaker, etc., when we can't get offshore due to the weather conditions. It has finally started to get into a pattern so we will definately have a lot more fishing reports starting next week.

Until then,

Capt. Damon McKnight/Super Strike Charters
