Venice - Saltwater Fishing Report

Awesome Offshore Tuna Action!
Once again we have been consistently catching Yellowfin and Blackfin on the Lump. Plenty of Yellowfin over 100lbs. and blackfin 10-25lbs. The fishing could not be any better. If you want to get some great info. about fishing the Midnight Lump check out the March 2002 issue of Sportfishing Magazine. We have a feature article on fishing the Lump.
This past week we had clients in from all over the country. On Thursday we had Larry Sharpe and friends in from West Palm Beach, Fla. They caught 6 yellowfin tuna and over 20 blackfin tuna. The weights of the yellowfin were 138lbs., 137lbs., 111lbs., 88lbs., 87lbs., and a small one around 30lbs. All of the blackfin tuna were between 15-25lbs.
On Friday Ed Groshens and friends came in from Illinois. The weather did not cooperate on Friday so we sat at the dock and talked fishing. Saturday, the wind calmed down some and we were able to get out to the rocks and load the boat with Red fish. The biggest Red of the day was about 50lbs. They will be back soon to get in on the offshore action.
Sunday was a different story. The weather was completely calm and the tuna were cooperating. Plenty of yellowfin and blackfin were caught but nothing real big. We only kept five tuna on the day. They were mostly hitting dead herring and top water baits.
The weather will keep us in the next few days since we have an arctic blast coming through. If you want to get in on some of the best offshore fishing action in the World you really need to fish with us.
Until the next post,
Capt. Damon McKnight
