Louisiana - Venice & the Gulf of Mexico

Capt. Damon McKnight
September 12, 2002
Venice - Saltwater Fishing Report

Louisiana Ling!

Finally, the weather is starting to cooperate again. We went offshore yesterday with Matt Garrett, his wife, and business partner. We went after Snapper and Cobia. There was about a 4ft. ground swell all day with just a little wind to keep us cool. They ended up catching about 14 snapper(reds and mangroves mixed) and two cobia, 30lbs.& 25lbs. We lost two other cobia and saw plenty but couldn't get them to bite. We had a lot of throw backs and unstopable fish yesterday. The fish were biting from 7:00 a.m. until about 2:00 p.m. and then they shut off. The cobia are thick right now so if you want to go catching cobia and not fishing for them now is the time.

The Tuna! They are out there but for the past couple of days the only thing I saw come in were small blackfin and some small yellowfin. The wahoo have been huge, a 70lber and a 60lber. hit the dock on Tuesday. We have some open days left in September and October is going fast. Get in on some of the World's Best Fishing.
