Venice - Saltwater Fishing Report

The Mullet Run!
Yesterday we had Kelly Santine and group from Biloxi and Minnesota. The weather prediction for yesterday was wrong, but was expected. Bob Breck is the only one who came close with a 2-4' predict the night before. We started out the day going Tuna fishing. The further we went the rougher it got and with one of the crew getting sea-sick they decided on sticking with rig fishing in a little calmer water. We caught some cobia, snapper, and mackeral. We had the biggest cobia I have ever seen on yesterday. We managed to get him to the boat 3 times. His head was about 20 inches wide. Then he spit the hook at us as to say I have had this happen before and no how to get out of these situations. All he needed was a little slack in the line, when he got it, he spit the hook. A few choice words and we were back at it, but that was the last hook-up for the day.
The mullet are moving out of the passes. On Friday they were moving out by the thousands if not more. Acres of them. There were some big tuna caught yesterday but not many. The night bite right now has been better than during the day. This cold front coming through should do it though. Next good weather day we will be back at it. Snapper season closes Oct. 31st for those that do not already know, and the cobia are going to move after this front. Wahoo are starting to show up a little more. If you are in blue-water count on wahoo being in the area.
