Venice - Saltwater Fishing Report

It is definately Spring!
Well, we have had some beautiful weather this past week. It is still Sunny out right now but the wind is howling. On Friday we had Mathew Upright and friends from Texas. They were on the dock Wed. when we came in with a 140lb. Yellowfin so they're expectations shot way up. They did get their yellowfin tuna but it only weighed about 40lbs. We did have a few more strikes but they were lost. On Saturday we had Jim Farrel and friends, including Pam Porter who fishes Venice all the time. We changed our tactics a little bit and went after A.J.'s first. It payed off as we got our limit easily. Tuna fished the rest of the day without a bite. The yellow fin tuna fishing did slow down a little. It was actually about time because it had been very good. Should pick back up this week. We are now starting to move into spring time weather, which usually brings us calm winds an sunny skies. The tuna and wahoo fishing will remain very good, like it is most of the year and we will also start fishing for A.J.'s and Grouper. The good thing about Amberjack is they are easy to catch(most days) and won't take a lot of time out of the day when you want to target other species.
Snapper season opens up April 21st which is a Wednesday. We'll be back out fishing the first non-windy day and will post a report afterwards.
