Venice - Saltwater Fishing Report

Tuna's and A.J.'s
It looks like we are back to crazy weather mode for a couple of days. This past Friday we had Amy Grassman and family from Baton Rouge and Michigan. They said take us to catch fish and that is what we did. They ended the day with 7 Blackfin Tuna and 5 Amberjack. All of the tuna were 20-25lbs. and the A.J.'s were 30-40lbs. The fishing was steady all morning then at about noon it was done. We trolled for Wahoo the rest of the day but we didn't even have a strike. I just received some custom baits from Braid and was excited about trying them out, but not even a scratch. Will get'em next time. The weather was gorgeous, flat calm seas. Thursday, I cancelled the charter that morning. Went to bed with the forecast of 2-3ft. seas for the forecast and woke up with a 4-5ft. sea forecast and it was howling. Blowing over 20 knots, we decided to reschedule. However, I was invited to go bass fishing with some friends of mine who are inshore guides and let me tell you. I was impressed with the size and quantity of Bass we caught. They were all 3-5lbers, maybe pushing 6lbs. It has been a long time since I have been involved in a catch like that. Quick morning bite, and a lot of fun. Of course all were catch and release.
Tuna fishing is very good, along with grouper and Amberjack. Will let you know on the Wahoo bite shortly. Red Snapper season opens April 21st. We are booked that week, but the following week is open. This should be our last cold front, from now on we will only have beautiful weather.
