Venice - Saltwater Fishing Report

Venice, La.
The weather is still very windy offshore but doable, giving us somewhat of a break on Sunday to at least get to where we wanted to go. About 20 miles out with the Welborn father and son team we came across a great rip line , filled with bull dolphin and nice size 20 lb. dolphin. This rip line saved the day as it was getting to rough to run anywhere else. Within the first 20 minutes we put 4 nice dolphin in the boat, one a nice bull about 40 lbs. the others a little smaller. We went just a little further in search of tuna with no luck. We then went back to the rip and put four more nice sized dolphin in the boat. Trolling to the east with a strong west wind and current pushing us took us a little further than I wanted to go but it was hard leaving this ripline. It kept getting better and better. When we did leave we payed for it having to had almost directly into a 20 knot wind and sharp 3-4ft. chop. We made it to a snapper hole and put a couple of nice snaps in the boat. Capt. Bob K. had the Fritze and Hernandez crew on Sat. and Sun. catching a mix of wahoo, dolphin, and a limit of snapper, and on Sunday limited easy on snapper, adding few mangroves and grouper to the bunch. Capt. Bob has the Rathel crew out today and we will be fishing a lot this next month and hoping for calmer seas. This time of the year is very exciting fishing for dolphin, wahoo, billfish, and tuna. The weather looks like it will finally start to get into a more calmer summer time weather pattern by the end of the week if not sooner. Can't wait to get back out.
