Venice - Saltwater Fishing Report

Venice Offshore La.
The offshore fishing remains excellent. The talk down here in Venice, La. right now is still about the Mahi-Mahi. I am not sure how many we have caught since the beginning of June but we have had to put self imposed limits on the catches. Most of them are right around 20lbs. with the occasional bull dolphin, I would say 1 out of every six dolphin is a nice bull and they show up from no where. Talk about the fish finding you. The tuna fishing has been O.K. with mostly black fin. The yellow fin have been a little hard to come by. They are not scattered in all the usual spots for this time of year, but more concentrated to just a few areas, and even those have not been very consistent. Should be any day that we start catching plenty of yellows, making the customers sweat a little more. We have fished everyday since Wed., I took the day off today because of the weather forecast. It has been a little bumpy heading out and then getting rough in the afternoons with a 15 knot south wind and a hard falling tide. Capt. Bob has been fishing as well with the same catches of dolphin and black fin tuna. He is out today and I will post a report with his catches as well. Wed.-Sunday the catches have all been the same. A mix of black fin tuna and dolphin. We still have some open days left in July and August. The fishing should be excellent like it always is. Back at it tomorrow.
