Louisiana - Venice & the Gulf of Mexico

Venice - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing Venice, La.

The past couple of days have been tough. The weather has been our main problem. We left out Friday morning with Dr. Sisto from New Hampshire. He had been waiting three years to come down to Venice. He was originally supposed to come down before all that weather we got in August of 2005, I am trying not to mention the name anymore. We left out after waiting at the dock for about an hour for the weather to either clear up, give us a hole to get thru, or get worse and we would cancel the trip altogether. Well, it looked like we would get a hole, ran for it, and not 15 minutes later, we were surrounded and running from it again. It chased us right back into another pass and right back to the dock. We waited another 1.5 hours at the dock and it finally cleared up enough to let us chase snapper and cobia. It was about as good as it gets when we finally got out. The snapper and cobia bite were on fire and well, with just one angler on board, the limit was caught first stop in about 25 minutes. On Saturday, the wind kept us from chasing tuna again, so we went back after the snapper and cobia. The snapper were very easy to get, in a matter of minutes the anglers caught their limit and off we went chasing cobia again. They proved to be a little harder to catch than on Friday. The group went 3 for Seven. Losing two in the rig and another two just coming unbuttoned. Everything was sight casting so we knew exactly what we had. The weather has been tough lately but the fishing is still very good. The tuna fishing is a little tough but that is mainly because of the weather. Over the next month and a half the fishing should be incredible. We've got open days this week and next.
