Louisiana - Venice & the Gulf of Mexico

Capt. Damon McKnight

Venice - Saltwater Fishing Report

Windy Venice, La.

It has been a while since our last post. The weather has kept us from getting offshore for the better part of three weeks now, thank goodness for teal season. But, that is to be expected this time of the year. It was well needed (not wanted though) so we could catch up on maintenance, assess which reels and tackle needed to be replaced, fixed, or thrown in the garbage, and just catch up on things after an incredible summer. But, now we are ready to get back out and fish during one of the best times of the year. September is usually full of tropical activity and wind. As we move deeper into October, there is generally a better weather pattern to allow us back offshore in decent conditions. The good thing is the bigger tuna are here now and should start to show up in bigger numbers, there are plenty of smaller tuna as well. It just all depends on which one gets to the hook first, 30lber or a 130lber. Another positive thing about tuna fishing in October is you don't have to go very far to catch fish. Running 20 miles in 4ft. seas is a whole lot better than running 40. The rewards are usually well worth the ride in bumpy seas. Some day's even closer than 20. We also do good with the bigger wahoo as well thru November. Hopefully this little windy thunderstorm offshore will be out of here by Thurs. afternoon, calm down on Friday, and back at it on Saturday. We were also catching limits of snapper very easily and a few cobia at the end of the day as well. If you like tuna and wahoo fishing, then you need to take advantage of fishing in October. We have weekdays open and hopefully the weather will start to cooperate a little better. For those of you who haven't been back to Venice since H.K. (But I am sure most readers on this site have) things are completely back to normal except for the Grocery store. The nearest one is in Port Sulphur. (IGA) Give us a shout when your ready to go. We are still doing duck hunts, and from the looks of things during teal season, we should have an incredible year.
