Venice - Saltwater Fishing Report

July 1, 2014 Report.
The fishing down river from Venice has been consistently good the last couple of weeks. The weather has not been windy, so that has allowed us to fish where we want to fish and if plan "A" does work out then plan "B" has been easy to get to. It has been very hot weather to fish in, so some cloud cover and a breeze is always welcome. The only thing that has been slowing the big Redfish bite are Sharks. The Sharks can move in areas where we are fishing and hit your lures and tear up your tackle. The Sharks can run you off. The Sharks tend to be a problem during the Summer months more than any other time. The Redfish fishing has been great the last couple of weeks even if we have had to move around and find them. We have caught them using lures in murky water. The Mississippi River stage in New Orleans is around 7 ft. today and it should be around 8 ft. next week, so the water is murky around the passes and bays. I have talked to people targeting Speckled Trout, and they have been doing best using live shrimp. Live shrimp will be your best way to catch Specks until October, November, and December when you can use soft plastics with success.
Everyone has had a great time the last couple of weeks (all year), and say they want to do it again. I took folks out fishing from Texas and Kentucky this last week. They fished with me for three days each. They were worn out by the time day three was over. They said the Redfishing here around Venice was incredible. The Striper fishing up in Kentucky was no match for the big Red Drum. All good here . I still have openings in July for day trips. Give me a call!
Target Species:

redfish, red drum, red fish
