Venice - Saltwater Fishing Report

October 5th report
The Redfish fishing around the Venice area continues to be outstanding, even when the conditions are windy and ugly. The Mississippi river is big and deep, so the wind does not foul it up. This last week I have had some folks from Alabama and another group from Texas. These guys wanted to catch slot Redfish to fight and take home to eat, so we spent most of the time inside the river system throwing spinner baits and crank baits. We drifted areas of the river using the trolling motor to keep the boat into position for casting to the structure along the river. What was hot bite yesterday does not mean they will be there tomorrow, but we bounced around and tried different lures and found them again. What the fish want and where they are at changes daily, but we have caught our limits and then some. It seems everyday I try to fish a section of the river that I have never tried to fish before. There are hundreds of miles of river branches to try to fish while the river is low. When the river is high we fish the outside, so we pass up much of the river that we are fishing now. You can't get bored trying to find new places to fish in this constantly changing river delta. The Speckled Trout should start to show up in the river after the next cold front or two, but I have not caught many yet. That will change any day. I have a few openings later in October and November if anyone has a flexible schedule, so come on down and get in on some great fishing action ( great food too ) this fall and early winter ( December).
Thanks! Captain Shawn: 225-205-5353
