It's tuna time in Massachusetts

Capt. Rich Antonino
June 24, 2009
Stellwagen Bank - Saltwater Fishing Report

How can you say, "Holy Crap?" Well, cast a surface lure in the direction of a 200 pound bluefin tuna and watch it come out of the water at 20 mph, with your lure in it's mouth. That's how.

We've been fishing like this for a few weeks now, catching fish up to 73 inches. I love it. We've been trolling, casting, and jigging Stingo-Fish jigs all with success. I make my own TunaCandy lures, which you can buy from my website. Good, inexpensive alternative to other rubber lurs. Plus, I have some incredible colors that no one else offers. Check out my site for those.

Those Stingo-Fish lures were incredible this spring for cod and haddock. We haven't fished for cod in nearly a month, but the fishing has been out of this world for 20-30 pound fish. I have lots of friends who are hammering those fish right now, still in shallow water! That's the best part.

We had three weeks of the best striper fishing ever at Race Point. I mean, some days we limiited out in 1/2 hour! These fish were mostly between 34-40 inches long, with some pushing 50". On Stellwagen Bank, we can keep stripers, but they're even bigger out there (they have to compete with tuna!!)

On my website, I have photos from all of my trips and I have some amazing video. If you check out my homepage, I'll have video of a 64" tuna being battled on a spinning rod and harpooned at the boat. Also, I updated my 2009 videos and added a few awesome ones.

See you on the water, Capt. Rich Antonino

We're the small charter specialists for private 1-4 person groups and shared charters. We fish where the fish are--cod/haddock on Stellwagen Bank, huge sea bass in Buzzards Bay, bluefin tuna on Stellwagen Bank, sharks off of Martha's Vineyard and Wildcat Knoll, Stripers off of Provincetown. We have a great website; visit us often and meet us as friends. We have lots of fun out there and cater to both the novice and veteran alike. Our rates are great and you don't have to get 6 people!!
