Ascension Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

I want to say thank you to you, the Pesca Maya staff, and especially my guides Nestor and Miguel for making my trip to Pesca Maya on June 11-19, 2011 such a wonderful trip. The staff were extremely pleasant, the food was excellent, and the lodging was top notch. And most importantly, the fishing that Nestor and Miguel provided for me was amazing. I caught my first permit ever on this trip and came so, so, so close to a grand slam that same day! Everyday, Nestor and Miguel put me on an amazing amount of fish and they both worked so hard to do everything they could to help me catch those fish. I caught 1 permit, 4 tarpon, and a ton of bonefish, not to mention many other species including ladyfish, barracuda, snapper, and jacks. In addition, I also got to see a huge sea turtle on the flats, and even 2 crocodiles in the mangroves.
And, as a testament to what a great fishery and what great guides Nestor and Miguel are, on my last day there, a tropical depression came through-- it was cloudy, raining off and on, and windy with gusts up to 35- 40 mph-- in the midst of that storm, I caught a bunch of bonefish and got some really good shots at permit-- large bonefish stole the fly from the permit each time!
As you can tell, I am extremely happy with my experience at Pesca Maya. This was my second time there, and I can't wait to come back for my third. My grand slam is still waiting.
Until next time!
Sincerely,
Kris
