Baja Sur - Saltwater Fishing Report

Might As Well Hunt Easter Eggs
EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO
Sat., April 14, 2001
TEMPERATURES: High of 84 with a low of 64. Continued winds from the north
for most of the week.
STRIPED MARLIN - Even with poor sea conditions, the number of marlin
continues to increase.
YELLOWFIN TUNA - Fair catches out 16 miles under the porpoise.
DORADO - A few sighted with the marlin, but with few bites.
ROOSTERFISH - Unsettled conditions still keeping the fish down.
JACK CREVALLE - A few fair-sized fish are hanging out in front of the
hotels when the wind isn't blowing.
BARRILLETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK - A few of the boats found some Punta
Colorada to Cabo Pulmo.
PARGO AND CABRILLA - Wind stopped us from fishing near shore.
.. OFFSHORE: In spite of the windy and rough conditions, the boats that got
offshore did reasonably well on marlin, tuna and a few dorado.
.. INSHORE: Off-color water and lots of wind kept catching to a bare minimum.
.. BEACH: Wind and high surf kept us from fishing the beach most of the week.
.. QUICK COMMENT - While it was victory at sea, the offshore was the best bet
most of the week. Everything else was brought almost to a standstill by the
wind.
MAGDALENA BAY, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO
Sat., April 14, 2001
Temperatures: 72-degree high; low 57. Windy and cloudy.
TUNA - No one fished this week.
YELLOWTAIL - Not much action this week.
CORVINA - Find a deep hole in one of the channels and fish it on an outgoing
tide using one of Popovic's Jiggies in gray and white.
SNOOK - A few fish are being seen moving up onto the shallows to feed.
HALIBUT - Best action near Punta Belcher.
.. QUICK COMMENT - Cold, cloudy and windy was the report this week and that
kept most of the boats on their trailers. Sat. (4/14) morning, the weather
seemed
to be turning for the better and hopefully things will get back to normal
this week.
