Baja Mexico: Magdalena Bay, Baja Sur & East Cape.

Capt. Gary Graham

Baja Sur - Saltwater Fishing Report

Better and Better and Better

EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

Sat., April 21, 2001

TEMPERATURES: High of 88 with a low of 68. Little wind except in the

Afternoon.

STRIPED MARLIN - Plenty of fish being seen, but they’re not very hungry.

YELLOWFIN TUNA - Improved immensely in the last few days.

DORADO - Also on the upswing.

ROOSTERFISH - Still good in front of La Capillia.

JACK CREVALLE - A few small fish are hanging out in front of the hotels.

BARRILLETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK - A few of the boats found some from Punta

Colorada to Cabo Pulmo.

PARGO AND CABRILLA - RBV and Punta Colorada producing good catches.

.. OFFSHORE: A few marlin, great tuna, and few dorado had everyone smiling

after weeks of wind, rough seas and few fish.

.. INSHORE: Plenty of roosters to 20 pounds, pargo, sierra and a few jacks

to 10 pounds made for a good week.

.. BEACH: early morning at gray light you will find a few jacks and small

roosters on the beach between Rancho Buena Vista and Buena Vista Beach

Resort.

.. QUICK COMMENT - What a difference a day makes. The last two days have been

good. Dr. Russell R. Burken, from Toccoa, Georgia, fishing with the family,

caught his first rooster on his second cast, which borders on being sinful!

Using an olive deep diver in front of the Buena Vista Beach Hotel near the

bait panga, he nailed it with a slow, erratic retrieve. Russ then took the

family on one of our ATV expeditions and had a great time chasing the

roosters. He managed to get small one from the beach. Then he came back

yesterday (Fri.) and spent the day eyeball to eyeball to some tuna that

sported both an attitude and some broad shoulders that did plenty of damage

to both his tackle and his pride. He vowed he would be back next year for

round two.

MAGDALENA BAY, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

Sat., April 21 2001

Temperatures: 77-degree high; low in the mid 60's. Fair skies.

TUNA - Still no action.

YELLOWTAIL - A few fish being caught down deep at the entrada (entrance.)

CORVINA - A few scattered throughout the esteros (estuaries.)

SNOOK - Pretty good catches of fish to 10 pounds in several of the esteros

up toward Devil’s Curve.

HALIBUT - Best action moved outside the entrance on the north side.

.. QUICK COMMENT – Finally, the snook have begun to show and the halibut

continue to bite well. Look for an upturn for several different species

including pargo and grouper this week.
