Baja Mexico: Magdalena Bay, Baja Sur & East Cape.

Capt. Gary Graham

Baja Sur - Saltwater Fishing Report

Lotsa, Lotsa Fish

EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

Sat., May 12, 2001

TEMPERATURES: High of 90 with a low of 60. Some wind in the afternoon.

STRIPED MARLIN - More and more being seen each day.

YELLOWFIN TUNA - Fair catches at Cabo Pulmo.

DORADO - More flags seem to be appearing each day, with most still being

found around the shark buoys.

ROOSTERFISH - Some quality fish in front of both hotels.

JACK CREVALLE - Good catches from both the pontoon boat and the shore.

BARRILLETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK - A few scattered here and there.

PARGO AND CABRILLA -Punta Colorada and Las Barracas producing good catches.

.. OFFSHORE: Billfish, dorado, tuna and even an occasional wahoo are keeping

the folks on the cruisers happy.

.. INSHORE: With the exception of the windy conditions on Thurs. afternoon

(5/10), it has been great for roosters, jacks, pargo and now a few pompano

are beginning to show.

.. BEACH: Concentrations of sardinia up and down the beach are driving the

roosters and jacks crazy. And anglers, too!

.. QUICK COMMENT - Both the beach and the pontoon boat, in the words of Baja

on the Fly guide Jeff DeBrown, are awesome. I was out on the beach in front

of La Ribera this morning and there were roosters as far as you could see

down the beach feeding on sardina. I am not sure what else was mixed in with

them, but I did catch a halibut underneath one bait ball. The pontoon boat

fly-fishers in front of the hotels near the bait boat are having a blast

with roosters, jacks, pompano

and even a 30 pound pargo yesterday.

See our new feature Catch of the Week.
