Baja Sur - Saltwater Fishing Report
Beaches ane Inshore are Hot
EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO
Sat., July 07, 2001
TEMPERATURES: High of 93 with a low of 74. Some strong wind in the
afternoon.
STRIPED MARLIN - Best action between La Ribera and Punta Colorada out 5 - 10
miles.
YELLOWFIN TUNA - A few under the porpoise.
DORADO - A few here and there.
ROOSTERFISH - Good from the beach as well as inshore.
JACK CREVALLE - Slowed down for the larger ones.
BARRILLETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK - Still good in front of La Ribera.
PARGO AND CABRILLA - A few in front of Rancho Leonero.
.. OFFSHORE: Best action continues from La Ribera to Cabo Pulmo.
.. INSHORE: Plenty of roosters, jacks, pompano and a few pargo in front of
the hotels.
.. BEACH: Roosterfish, jacks and pompano dominated the catch this week.
.. QUICK COMMENT - We didn't have to go far Fri. (7/6) morning to find the
action. Our guide Chris Sorenson reported, “Fishing Fri. morning was
awesome. I only fished for about two hours because of Wimbeldon on TV, but
I caught three roosters, a huge pogey, and a palometa right in front of the
house.”

MAGDALENA BAY, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO
Sat., July 07, 2001
Temperatures: 82-degree high; low in the mid 60s. Partly cloudy skies.
TUNA - Few reported.
YELLOWTAIL - A few at Thetis Bank.
CORVINA - The bridge on the way into town is still producing some good
action. Up near Devil's Curve is the other spot to try.
SNOOK - Good catches continue in some of the esteros at Almejas Bay.
HALIBUT - Try any of the sand beaches.
.. QUICK COMMENT - Sounds like a broken record, but chartreuse Clousers with
red eyes continue to be the fly the pargo, grouper, snook and corvina all
are looking for. Fish with a 300 grain head and let the fly sink just far
enough to be out of site and then short strips will do it every time. Well
.. . . almost every time.
