Baja Sur - Saltwater Fishing Report

Some Dorado to Talk About

EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

Wed., Aug. 15, 2001

TEMPERATURES: High of 93 with a low of 80. Some wind in the afternoon.

STRIPED MARLIN - Spotty with a few being found outside the lighthouse and on

down past Las Frailes.

YELLOWFIN TUNA - Some larger fish found under the porpoise.

DORADO - Better catches this week the color line near the lighthouse

produced a handful of catches yesterday (8/14).

ROOSTERFISH -La Ribera is the best bet.

JACK CREVALLE - All the green jacks you want at the lighthouse.

BARRILLETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK - A few scattered outside of La Ribera.

PARGO AND CABRILLA - Several larger fish near the lighthouse.

.. OFFSHORE: Moderate action this week

.. INSHORE: Punta Arena has produced excellent fishing for the last few days.

Catches include dorado, green jacks, larger pargo and a few sierra.

.. BEACH: From Rancho Leonero to La Ribera has produced consistent action for

roosters and jacks.

.. QUICK COMMENT Most of this week’s action centered near Punta Arena and the

lighthouse. Using the pontoon boat, the Gary Meyer family from Albuquerque

had non-stop action for two days. Russell and Janis Sylvester from Elliot,

Maine also had a good day with several dorado and sierra providing the

action.

MAGDALENA BAY, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

Temperatures: 84-degree high; low 73. Partly cloudy

MARLIN - Thetis Bank is holding a few.

DORADO – The shark buoys at 240 degrees 25 miles from the entrada are

providing good action.

TUNA - No action reported.

YELLOWTAIL - Didn't hear too much this week.

CORVINA - Fair action up toward Lopez Mateos.

SNOOK - Several caught out near Punta Redonda.

HALIBUT - Sand beaches on Magdalena Island are your best bet.

.. QUICK COMMENT - Weather has been a little squirrelly this week, but the

fishing continues to be good. Most of the action has been out near the

entrada and included snook, halibut and a few corvina.
